How do I choose a hay rack that will not trap feet or heads?
Short answer: pick a wide-opening, spring-free hay box or bag placed low, so heads and feet cannot get stuck.
1. Avoid spring-loaded and narrow wire racks — heads or feet can slip in and get stuck.
2. Prefer open designs — floor hay boxes, wooden hay boxes or fabric hay bags.
3. Right height — reachable while standing, no climbing needed.
4. Secure it — make sure it cannot tip over.
5. Refill daily — the rack is only a container; refresh unlimited hay daily and remove soiled hay.
