← Guinea pig care guide

What should I watch for when travelling or moving with a guinea pig?

Short answer: use a solid, ventilated carrier lined with a towel and hay, keep temperatures comfortable and keep trips short.

1. Carrier — hard-sided, ventilated, roomy enough to turn around; a familiar hideout helps.

2. Hydration on the way — cucumber or romaine instead of spill-prone water bowls.

3. Temperature — never leave them in a hot or sunny car; in winter wrap with a towel but keep airflow.

4. When you are away — 1–2 days: a daily visitor; longer: a sitter experienced with guinea pigs.

5. On arrival — let them rest quietly, then check appetite and droppings.
