How long do guinea pigs live?
Short answer: about 5–8 years on average, and some well-cared-for guinea pigs live beyond 8.
1. Diet basics — unlimited hay, fresh daily vegetables with vitamin C, measured pellets.
2. Environment — 18–26°C, dry bedding and plenty of floor space.
3. Company — they are social animals and thrive with a companion or daily interaction.
4. Regular checks — weekly weighing, annual vet visits, every six months after age 4.
5. Life stages — adult by about 1 year; senior from 4–5 years, when teeth and joints need extra attention.
