Understanding guinea pig moods and sounds
1. Happy and content (purring) — a low, gentle purr when petted shows comfort, safety and pleasure.
2. Excited for food (wheeking) — a loud, high-pitched "Wheeek!" at the sound of the fridge or a bag means "Vegetables or powder, please!"
3. Angry or warning (teeth chattering) — rapid, sharp clicking means "Back off!" Give them space to avoid bites.
4. Annoyed or stressed (low whining) — retreating with a low rumble or whine means they need quiet.
