Vitamin C and daily vegetables

• Guinea pigs cannot make their own vitamin C, so it must come from the daily diet.

• Good choices — bell peppers (red, yellow, green), cucumber, kale, rocket, coriander, romaine.

• Portion — about a palm-sized amount daily, split into one or two servings, washed and patted dry.

• Avoid — large amounts of sugary fruit, starches (bread, cereals), onion and garlic, dairy.

• New foods — introduce one at a time and watch for 2–3 days.

• Hay, clean water and balanced daily nutritional support are the steadiest combination for health maintenance.
