Which vegetables should not be fed every day?

Short answer: spinach, parsley, kale, beet greens and similar high-oxalate or high-calcium greens are best limited to small portions once or twice a week.

1. High oxalate — spinach, beet greens, amaranth; large daily amounts do not suit urinary health.

2. High calcium — parsley, Chinese broccoli, kale, alfalfa (for adults).

3. Gassy brassicas — cabbage and cauliflower, small amounts only.

4. Balance — build meals on bell pepper, romaine and cucumber, rotating these as extras.

5. Watch the urine — persistently cloudy urine, white sediment or straining needs an exotic-pet vet.
