How do I choose guinea pig pellets, and how much should I feed?
Short answer: choose a guinea pig-specific, timothy-based, uniform pellet (not a colourful mix); adults need about 1–2 tablespoons a day.
1. Species-specific — must be for guinea pigs with added vitamin C; rabbit pellets are unsuitable.
2. Base — timothy for adults; alfalfa-based for under 6 months or pregnancy.
3. Skip fancy mixes — coloured bits, grains, dried fruit and seeds encourage selective eating.
4. Portion — about 1–2 tablespoons (≈1/8 cup) per adult daily, not free-fed.
5. Storage — seal, keep cool and dry, and finish within 1–2 months of opening.
